    Summary

    Pfam family PFAM:PF01861 {Protein of unknown function DUF43} with 30 members in NR database. The first structural representative solved (PDB Id: TOPSAN:2qm3) was subject to FATCAT structural similarity search that indicated similarity to SCOP (v. 1.73) domain SCOP:d1wy7a1 classified as S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent methyltransferase fold. Profile-profile methods confirm a remote homology between this family and the superfamily of S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent methyltransferase belonging to the fold with the same name. A search in DALI with 2qm3 as query, provides hits (Z=19-15) with methyltransferases like the PH1948 protein PDB:1wy7, TA1320 protein PDB:1ne2, and the putative O-methyl-transferase PDB:3dul and PDB:2hnk.

    Based on remote homology confirmed by the structure, one can hypothesize that this family is probably involved in methyl group transfer [Ref].
