    Summary

    Pfam family PFAM:PF01893 {Uncharacterized protein family UPF0058 } with 41 members in NR database and additional 5 members in the metagenomic datasets is represented in Archaea. The first structural representative solved (PDB Id: TOPSAN:2gf4) was subject to FATCAT structural similarity search that indicated similarity to SCOP (v. 1.73) domain SCOP:d1o7d.1 classified as immunoglobulin/albumin-binding domain-like fold, Vng1086c-like (super)family. A DALI search returns only weak hits (Z=7) with the hypothetical protein 2qff, the heat shock protein homolog 2qxl and the DNAK protein 1dky.

    However, no sequence similarity to this fold has been detected. 2gf4 structure corresponds to the Halobacterium halobium VNG1086C protein. Analysis of its genome vicinity indicates a possible functional link (score 0.75) with the UPF0095 protein VNG_1784C. A BLAST search with VNG1086C as query provides hits with several proteins with predicted metal binding sites, like HborDRAFT_0076 (75% seq. id.).

    Out of this analysis is predicted that UPF0058 (PF01893) could include metal binding proteins with stress response properties.
