    Summary

    Pfam family PFAM:PF03928 {Domain of unknown function (DUF336) } with 826 members in NR database and additional 416 members in the metagenomic datasets is represented in Archaea, Bacteria, and Eukaryota. The first structural representative solved (PDB Id: TOPSAN:2a2l) was subject to FATCAT structural similarity search that indicated similarity to SCOP (v. 1.73) domain SCOP:d1j3wa_ classified as Profilin-like fold. Based on marginal prediction from FFAS confirmed by structural similarity one can argue that this family is remotely homologous to previously known structures from 'd1j3wa_' this fold. Based on remote homology confirmed by the structure one can hypothesize that this family is homologous to sensor proteins

    Streptomyces reticuli HbpS (UniProtKB:Q9RIM2) is a heme-binding protein that predominantly comprises this domain. The protein forms an octomer that interacts with a sensor kinase, SenS [PMID:19244623]. In vitro studies indicate that this domain has heme degradation activity.
