    Summary

    Representative of this family in Dictyostelium discoideum was characterized as a Ca2+-binding protein implicated in the cell-cell adhesion.

    DdCAD-1 contains two beta-sandwich domains: N-terminal beta-gamma-crystallin and C-terminal immunoglobulin domain. The former has a major role in homophilic binding and belongs to gamma-Crystallin-like superfamily (CL0333 Pfam clan), while the latter tethers the protein to the cell membrane and should probably belong to Ig clan (Cl0011).

    This family can be renamed as DdCAD.
