    Protein Summary

    The gene Reut_A1007 from Ralstonia eutropha jmp134 encodes the protein YP_295230, annotated as an aminoglycoside phosphotransferase (APH) EC:2.7.1.95 COG3231, and a member of the phosphotransferase enzyme family PF01636.  Alternative names: kanamycin kinase, neomycin-kanamycin phosphotransferase.  The 3dxp structure belongs to the class of alpha and beta (a+b) proteins and adopts a protein kinase-like (PK-like) fold  inside the APH phosphotransferase family SCOP56111.  A Dali search for structural similarity using 3dxp as query provides the homoserine kinase PDB:2ppq as top hit with a 22 Z-score. Next with a Z-score of 20 there are several choline kinase alpha structures like PDB:3f2s, PDB:2cko and PDB:2i7q.

     

    The APH phosphotransferase family catalyzes the following reaction: ATP + kanamycin <=> ADP + kanamycin 3'-phosphate.  It is also able to act on the following antibiotics: neomycin, paromomycin, neamine, paromamine, vistamycin and gentamicin A.
