    Protein Summary

    This protein (TM1050) is annotated as an endoglucanase in Pfam PF05343 (Peptidase M42) which belongs to the Pfam clan CL0035 and CATH family of zinc metallopeptidases. For further analysis of this protein structure and comparative analysis of similar structures solved at the JCSG, please refer to the link in the Tags section below.

    There is 1 protein molecule/asu but crystal packing analysis suggests that a dimer should be the oligomeric form in solution:

    There is a cis-peptide bond between residues Asp168 and Asp169 near the putative active site. Cis-peptides are often seen in the active sites of carbohydrate binding proteins and this observation is consistent with the annotation of the protein as an endoglucanase.

    Another similar endoglucanase structure (TM1049) from T. maritima has also been solved by JCSG previously, with PDB id 2fvg. Interestingly, this protein TM1050, TM1049 and TM1048 (solved by NYSGX, PDB id 1vho) are all annotated as endoglucanases and predicted to be functional partners based on genetic neighborhood.

    These proteins are likely involved in some carbohydrate metabolism pathway.
